Hello Friends!

Welcome back to my Artsy Life! I hope you are do well today!

SNEAK PEEKS…

We have a NEW RELEASE coming to Digi Doodle Studios on September 18th.

To celebrate this New Release, my DT and I are showcasing our design samples all week in Digi Doodles FB Community.

Today, I am going to do A Little Monkey Business! I’m super excited to share with you a SNEAK PEEK of just one of our fabulous new release digi stamp sets, “Monkey Business Pairables”.

I couldn’t resist playing with these little monkeys! So, I decided to create a sample using one of the little monkeys, and our new “Wild Thing” Digi Paper Pack, on a trendy slimline card design.

Let’s get Started…

I printed out the images I planned to use, three times, on a piece of marker paper (full supply list below).

Tip: If you plan on coloring with markers, you may want to use paper designed for that medium. It really does make a difference when it comes to blending and bleeding. For more info on paper, visit my article on Artist Paper in my Cool Crafty Tools Section

Once my images were printed, I cut them out with an applied offset of 0.035 around each image, using my die cut machine.

Once my images were cut, I colored them up with Copic Markers. Believe me, there are no hard and fast rules to the order of these steps, I just prefer to print and cut before I color, because it is not unlike me to change my plan, or worse, mess up!

Enjoy the Process and Dare to be Different…

As you can see, I colored each monkey with a slightly different shade of brown to give them a little more character.

I decided early on in my planning stages that I was going to create a slimline card for this particular project. I used a slimline circle die on white card stock and then embossed it with a leafy embossing folder.

Tip: The order of these two steps definitely matter. Die cutting your shape first prevents the embossed design from flattening.

I placed a piece of Wild Thing pattern paper behind the embossed piece of cardstock and then attached both of them to a piece of Kraft paper. The natural color of the Kraft paper served well with my theme and pattern paper choices.

The Monkey Business Pairables comes with a few coordinating sentiments. I sized and printed the “Hang in There” sentiment on a piece of white cardstock and cut it out with a small banner die.

One of the super fun things about Pairables is that the possibilities are endless. You can create many different cards and styles with just one Pairables Digi Stamp Set. Or of course, you can mix and match them too!

To CAS or Not to CAS?

Admittedly, I’m not very the best at creating CAS cards. It seems that whenever I see a lonely space on my card design, I usually want to fill it with something beautiful to whimsical. But…I really wanted to keep this slimline card design as clean, and fairly simple as possible.

So, once I had all my paper layers in place, I gathered my colored elements,(monkeys, bananas, leaves, and sentiment) and attached them in various whimsical positions on my card.

Walk Away…

Yes! I actually had to get up, walk away from my project, and call it finished!

My slimline card easily fits in a #10 envelope
