Hello October! Fall is here and Halloween is on the way!
Today I’m stopping by with a super fun Halloween inspired handmade greeting card using Digi Doodle Studios new “Batty Bats” digi stamp.
Fun Fact: Did you know that bats have incredibly fast metabolisms? It’s true! Can you imagine what that must be like?! I can’t! No wonder we never see a chubby bat…well…unless of course, we are talking about a DDS Bat (*wink)

Batty Bats Inspiration..
I have a friend that will ONLY decorate her house for Halloween using “God’s Creatures” as she calls them. I really don’t blame her. As I’ve mentioned before, I won’t illustrate, or design, anything scary, or evil, so I definitely get it.
But…she WILL decorate her home, and lawn, with horrifying, hairy rats, spooky spiders with glowing eyes, and other creepy crawly things.
I wanted to play upon HER Halloween decor ideas with MY Family-Friendly interpretation. So, Batty Bats fell out of my head and onto to my sketch pad. Phew! Good thing it wasn’t a horrifying hairy rat, right?! I love her to pieces, but she definitely knows how to make me squirm!
Let’s Get This Party Started…
Let’s create “Tonight We Fly”.
These Batty Bats are Super cute and Ready to Fly!
To start off, I sized, printed, and cut my image using my die cutting machine (my full supply list below).

Tip: If you plan on coloring with markers, you may want to use paper designed for that medium. It really does make a difference when it comes to blending and bleeding. For more info on paper, visit my article on Artist Paper in my Cool Crafty Tools Section
Once my image was printed, I cut it out with an applied offset of 0.035 around each image, using my die cut machine.

Once my images were cut, I colored them with Copic Markers.
Note: there are no hard and fast rules to the order of these steps, I just prefer to print and cut before I color, because it is not unlike me to change my plan, or worse, mess up!

At first, I wasn’t really sure where I was going with this project. Sometimes it’s more exciting not to have a plan and just let things happen as they happen.
But, once my Batty Bats were colored, I definitely wanted to create a card with a lot of color, so I printed out my “Wonky Halloween” Digi Papers.
After printing my paper out, I decided to go with the stripes as my pattern paper. I liked how the stripes picked up several colors from my Batty Bats colored image. But, at the same time, I didn’t want to lose my image in the stripes, so I die cut a piece of black textured cardstock with an interesting stitched circle die and added a little moon glow with distress inks.

I also die cut corners, and little black bats, out of the same textured black cardstock.

I wanted my sentiment to stand out, so I applied the same technique as I did with my “Wickedly Good Friend” project. If you didn’t see my tutorial, you can view it HERE

With all my elements cut, printed, and colored, it was time to assemble my card.

And there it is! My Batty Bats “Tonight We Fly” handmade Halloween greeting card is finished!
More Project Ideas…
There are lots of paper crafting possibilities with these little Halloween cuties other than greeting cards.

Party favors, treat bags, cupcake toppers, and party invitations, etc… instantly come to mind.
With traditional Trick or Treat events looking a little different this year, I thought it would be fun to create these gifts. I know a few little kids that would love them.
BONUS!
Sizing Digi Stamps…
One of the great advantages of using a Digi Stamp is being able to size your image to fit your project. If you are not sure how to size your digi images and you have a PC, you can grab my FREE Tutorial using Microsoft Word from Digi Doodle Studios. If you have a Mac and need help sizing your images, please contact me.

I hope I have inspired you today to try something new, or simply create something Fabulously Heart-Warming to bring you, or someone else, a little bit of joy for the moment.
Happy Crafting…
